26th Czech-Polish-Slovak Conference on Environmental Law

  • Annotation: In an era marked by shifting geopolitical realities and increasing environmental pressures, securing resource independence has emerged as a critical imperative. The conference aims to provide a platform for sharing legal research, experience and professional discussion on current challenges in environmental law related to resource independence and national self-sufficiency in Central Europe. We invite the submission of insightful contributions – whether advancing theoretical understanding or presenting rigorous analyses of salient case law and legislative measures originating from the Czech Republic, Poland, and Slovakia. Engagement with the implications of European and international law is considered highly relevant. A focal point of the discussion will be the exploration of novel legal mechanisms and forward-thinking approaches designed to address pressing resource challenges, acknowledging the significant influence of the current dynamic geopolitical context.
  • Selected thematic areas for conference contributions:
    • Legal Frameworks for Strategic Resource Management: Legal regulation of critical raw materials and strategic resources in national and EU legislation
    • Environmental Law Aspects of Resource Extraction: Legal balancing of resource independence with environmental protection obligations
    • Circular Economy Legislation: Legal tools promoting resource efficiency, waste reduction, and circular use of materials
    • Cross-Border Resource Management in Central Europe: Legal frameworks for shared resources and transboundary cooperation
    • Energy Law and Resource Independence: Legal regulation of energy production, storage, and distribution with focus on resource self-sufficiency
    • International Trade Law and Resource Security: Legal mechanisms for securing access to resources through international agreements and trade regulations
    • Legal Challenges in Transitioning to Sustainable Resource Management: Regulatory frameworks supporting the shift from extractive to renewable resource bases
    • Regulatory Approaches to New Technologies in Resource Management: Legal aspects of innovative extraction methods, recycling technologies, and alternative materials
    • Comparative Analysis of Resource Legislation: Comparing legal approaches to resource independence in the Czech Republic, Poland, and Slovakia
    • Legal Liability and Enforcement in Resource Management: Compliance mechanisms, environmental liability, and enforcement of resource-related regulations
  • Conference fee: 190 EUR (VAT included).
  • The conference fee encompasses all organisational aspects, including the publication of the conference proceedings (detailed below). This fee grants access to the Gala Dinner scheduled for September 3rd, all refreshments and lunches provided throughout the conference duration, and participation in the cultural programme on the afternoon of September 4th. In alignment with our department's commitment to sustainability and ethical considerations, please be advised that all catering provided will be exclusively vegan, prepared using high-quality ingredients.
  • Accommodation: Participants are kindly requested to arrange and cover their own accommodation expenses independently. We have secured preferential rates at partner hotels for conference attendees; please quote the code "ENVI2025" when booking. Options include the SONO Hotel Brno (https://sonohotel.cz/), conveniently located adjacent to the Faculty premises, and the Hotel Continental Brno (https://www.continentalbrno.cz/en), offering proximity to Brno's city centre for those who prefer a central location.
  • Type of Participation: Attendees may register for either passive attendance or active participation. Active participation is distinguished by the submission of a written contribution (in English) intended for publication in a special issue of the Czech Environmental Law Review (submission deadline: September 30, 2025). Delegates wishing to present their work orally during the conference are requested to indicate this preference on the registration form. Kindly note that the Organising Committee reserves the right to select oral presentations based on factors including, but not limited to, the total number of submissions, thematic relevance and coherence, and the overarching aim of the conference to serve as a dynamic platform for substantive discussion and intellectual exchange.
  • Formal Requirements for Contributions: Submitted manuscripts intended for publication should adhere to a length specification of 8–12 standard pages (where one standard page constitutes 1,800 characters, including spaces). All submissions must be presented in Microsoft Word format (.docx or .doc). A detailed formatting template will be provided to all registered active participants submitting a contribution.
  • Registration deadline: Please complete your registration by May 30, 2025. Those planning active participation are kindly required to include a brief abstract (approx. 150-250 words suggested) of their proposed contribution at the time of registration. Registration is managed exclusively through the Faculty of Law, Masaryk University's conference portal, accessible via the following link after creating your account: [Here]. Please note that delegate capacity is limited; therefore, early registration is strongly encouraged to guarantee participation.
  • The conference programme will be published no later than June 30, 2025.
